PREPARATION GUIDE

Clothes:

Select something that you are comfortable in and more importantly, like. Solid-color tops, blouses, or shirts work best. This is very important. Please avoid patterns or busy prints, these can be distracting. Once you have selected what you are going to wear, look at it carefully to make sure there are no wrinkles, and if there are please iron it and go over it with a lint brush. Please bring as many outfit changes as you like!

Makeup:

My advice is to keep it natural. Less is always more!! If you decide to go to a makeup artist, do a trial run a few days before your headshot session and NOT the day of and again, keep the makeup as natural as possible. One more thing, false eyelashes are not recommended. Although they are lovely, they can cause shadows from the lights around the eyes.

Facial Hair:

For men, shave and if you have a beard or mustache please trim them. Eyebrows in both men and women should also be trimmed and shaped, if necessary. Please do this a few days before our session to avoid the reddening around the eyebrows caused by waxing.

Jewelry:

No jewelry is preferred, no earrings or necklaces. If you need to wear jewelry, a simple chain necklace or small post earrings would be fine, nothing chunky.

Glasses:

If you wear glasses, please clean them before our session.

Hair:

Wear your hair as you normally would. DO NOT get a new hairstyle or hair color days before your headshot session. If you have a hair stylist that you go to regularly and want to get your hair styled by them the day of our session, that is fine just no drastic changes, please.

General:

Please try and get a good night's sleep before your session. It is helpful to be well-rested. I also recommend drinking plenty of water which helps absorb moisture into the skin. You are probably doing this already but make sure to moisturize your face, preferably right after washing, this helps lock in moisture to the skin.

Closing:

Headshot photography is the only form of photography where you are the product. Please keep this in mind when preparing for your headshot and remember to avoid anything that would detract focus from your face, ie. chunky jewelry, red lipstick, or a busy print shirt. All of the above-mentioned are key aspects of a successful headshot. By preparing for your headshot you will feel more relaxed, comfortable, and confident walking into your headshot session.
